Event details

Uli Veith from Malles in Vinschgau (I) is a new hotelier. Since the summer of 2022 he has been running the historic Hotel Chalavaina in Müstair, right next to the UNESCO World Heritage Monastery of St. Johann.

The Chalavaina is an original and was run for decades by Jon alias "Jonni" Fasser and is known far beyond Val Müstair. Now Uli Veith is the host and lets the old, memorable house shine anew in simple splendor.

But Uli Veith is also the managing director of the Pro Kloster St. Johann foundation and is therefore responsible for ensuring that the Unesco World Heritage site vis-à-vis the Chalavaina is taken care of.

And Uli Veith was mayor of Malles for a long time. As such, he has fought a hard battle. Against the South Tyrolean apple industry. Because the municipality of Mals decided under his leadership that no more pesticides may be used in the municipality. A provocation to the fruit monoculture in Vinschgau and South Tyrol. Lawyers and courts are still arguing about it to this day.

Moderation: David Spinnler, journalist and managing director of the Biosfera Val Müstair Nature Park

In cooperation with the Association for Cultural Research Graubünden.
