Theatre performances from December 18-20, 2026
Maud lives in a simple trailer park in California. On a whim, she buys an unassuming painting at a flea market—to cheer up her neighbor. But soon, suspicion arises: Could it be an original by... Jackson Pollock act?
To resolve the matter, art expert Lyonel Percy travels from New York. What follows is an intense clash between two worlds: gut feeling versus expertise, hope versus judgment, existence versus evaluation.
Percy remains convinced that the painting is a forgery. But the longer the conflict lasts, the more the question shifts: not only the painting is at stake, but also the credibility and dignity of the two people themselves.
In the end, Percy sticks to his verdict: „"The picture is not real."“
And adds: „"But it is you."“
A chamber play about truth and value
Stephen Sachs' play explores how reality is constructed – in the art market as well as in society's perception of people. In times of fake news and deepfakes, the question arises anew: What is real, and who decides?
An intense, pointed two-person play that blends suspense, humor, and existential depth.
