Under the direction of Izabelė Jankauskaitė

The young Lithuanian conductor Izabelė Jankauskaitė takes us north on the 2026 autumn tour: with Edvard Grieg's "Norwegian Dances" and the magnificent Fifth Symphony by Jean Sibelius. Finally, we venture even further with Einojuhani Rautavaara (1928–2016). He combines real birdsong with orchestral sounds, as beautiful as the Northern Lights.

The SJSO as a springboard

The Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra https://sjso.ch/ is a very special kind of orchestra: Up to one hundred young musicians aged between 15 and 25 from all four parts of Switzerland come together and perform demanding works from all eras of classical music under the direction of internationally renowned conductors.

From its inception, the SJSO has offered many music students a welcome opportunity to gain valuable practical experience: These talented young musicians work intensively with their peers to master challenging orchestral repertoire, culminating in several concerts where they present their work to a large audience. Just a few years after its founding, SJSO members secured permanent positions in professional orchestras. Today, it's safe to say that all Swiss professional orchestras have, or have had, former SJSO members. The distribution of members in orchestras abroad is also remarkable, ranging from top European orchestras to those in Japan.
