Event details

The winners of the 20th Over-70s Writing Competition present texts written in the Engadine.

Presented by: Richard Reich & Heinz Helle
Greetings: Vreni Bolt (Foundation Creative Age), Salomé Schmid (Swiss Family), Beatrice Stoll (Jury)

Literary writing involves fiction, but often also a creative processing of biographical experiences. Accordingly, the texts submitted to the 20th Over-70s Writing Competition (exclusively for those over 70) on the theme of "Intoxication" are quite diverse. Some focus on the LSD trip of a hippie in the 1960s, others on the intoxication a respectable lady experiences while picking blackberries. From over 300 submissions from across the German-speaking world, the jury selected the following seven authors for prizes: Walter Baco (AT), Barbara Becker (DE), Hannelore Dauer (DE), Christine Glinski-Kaufmann (LIE), Marita Häp (DE), Erich Nussbaum (CH), Elsbeth Stucky-Fehr (CH).

The competition prize consists of a joint performance by the group at the "Zürich liest" festival. Then it's off to the Engadine for a week to write new texts or work on long-cherished book projects under the guidance of a professional (this year, author Heinz Helle). At their workshop reading at the Hotel Laudinella, the seven prize winners will present excerpts from their works – guaranteed to be as diverse as their backgrounds and the stories behind their lives.

PS: The 21st Over-70s Writing Competition on the theme "By Hand" runs until December 31, 2025. The competition's principle is simple: Any writer born in 1955 or earlier (currently) can submit a text on the given theme.
