„"Your letters are like kisses to me!"” writes the twenty-year-old Johannes Brahms to the wife of the composer Robert Schumann. While Clara Schumann, fourteen years his senior, earns the family's living as a pianist, the young musician cares for his ailing friend Robert Schumann, who lives in a mental asylum after a suicide attempt – from affection, comfort, and tenderness, a love triangle develops.

The musical pieces and texts by C. Schumann, R. Schumann and J. Brahms alternate, are coordinated in terms of content and complement each other emotionally.
