Event details
Marek Kozák's virtuosic and masterful playing is characterized by nobility and musicality. He possesses a rich tonal palette and a sure sense of the architectural proportions of a work. Marek comes from Moravia and studied with Ivan Klánský at the renowned Prague Academy of Music. During his studies, he attended masterclasses with Murray Perahia, Garrick Ohlsson, and Eugen Indjic. Today, he himself teaches at the Academy of Music in Prague.
Marek Kozák was a semifinalist at the 17th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2015 and a finalist at the Busoni Competition in 2019. In 2021, he was a prize winner at the Géza Anda Competition, and in 2025, he won second prize at the Leipzig Bach Competition. As a result, he received various concert engagements, including one with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under Jakub Hrůša.
In his first appearance with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2020, Marek Kozák caused a sensation with the little-known Piano Concerto in D minor by Vítězslava Kaprálová. Since then, he has performed two further neglected Czech piano concertos by Karel Kovařovic and Pavel Bořkovec, which have been released on CD by Supraphon.
On an extensive tour of the Czech Republic and Poland with the Moravian Philharmonic under Zsolt Hamar in Baden-Baden and Zurich, Marek Kozák dedicated himself to the rarely heard Piano Concerto by Antonín Dvořák. In other countries, he has also performed piano concertos by Grieg, Tchaikovsky, and Beethoven. In solo recitals, he focuses on the works of Johann Sebastian Bach—especially the two volumes of the "Well-Tempered Clavier"—and the solo works of Sergei Rachmaninoff, a selection of which was recently released on a highly acclaimed CD.
