A JOURNEY IN SOUND

The evocative title of this album transports us right into the process of creating these recordings: Katrin Frauchiger and Michael Beck embarked on a long journey and research for an independent musical language “between” their different stylistic origins, into which the diverse experiences of both musicians and their individual attitudes flow.

The duo interprets standards by composers such as Cole Porter, Kurt Weill and Duke Ellington with their own tone, authentic expression, improvisational freedom and immediacy. 11 songs were selected that inspire with lyrical phrasing and a special melodic-harmonic reference. Frauchiger/Beck dealt intensively with the technically demanding original versions, as well as with the countless new interpretations by various protagonists of jazz. In the introspective chamber music dialogue of this duo, listening on multiple levels and subtle interplay are of utmost importance. In their interpretations, Frauchiger / Beck release the emotion and motivation from the time these songs were created and transport them into an expression of our present.
