do12Dec20:30Max Lässer & the Überlandorchesterconcert

Event details

Lively Ländler, pounding polkas and plenty of space for musical excursions: Swiss guitarist Max Lässer and the small Überlandorchester are once again travelling "Überland" and devoting themselves to the music of the Alpine region: narrow and wide, gnarled and airy - just like the landscape in which it is created. Enriched by the Schwyzerörgeli player Markus Flückiger, an unheard-of type of Swiss dance music is created here.

With the Überlandorchester, a dream has come true for Lässer: "I always wanted to play with musicians in a long-term band. We are now so well-coordinated that everyone knows exactly what the other wants. We can play for four to five hours in one evening and vary our program in each concert. It creates a flow, as sometimes happens with English or American bands that perform every evening." Alongside Max Lässer, the standard formation of the small Überlandorchester includes Markus Flückiger, currently probably the most influential and innovative player on the Schwyzerörgeli (diatonic accordion), and Patrick Sommer on the double bass.

Anyone who sees the Überlandorchester live can feel the magic that happens on stage. Even with a simple polka, you can hear that there are men sitting on the stage who keep their musical horizons wide open. Markus Flückiger draws highly unusual sounds from his accordion. His own compositions exude a fascinating mixture of melancholy and virtuosity. Where is the cradle of Swiss folk music - in Eastern Europe, Finland, Argentina or perhaps in Muotathal? And when Max Lässer adds Caribbean and South African ingredients with his guitars, mandolins and Weissenborn lap slide, it becomes clear that this is not just about finding traces and expanding the musical language of Swiss folk music. Here are artists who create their own alpine music.
