The exceptional pianist Brad Mehldau is one of the few genuine improvisers who does not threaten to lose his sense of form even in totally turbulent phases. Mehldau has trained this awareness of form not least through his well-founded and inquisitive examination of classical models - he has appeared in front of audiences with improvisations on Bach themes, among other things. In solo recitals, not only does this awareness of form come into its own, but also Mehldau's extraordinarily sensitive touch, which allows him to bring out even the smallest nuances.
