Leta Semadeni grew up in Scuol. Her father was the writer, theater director, and playwright Jon Semadeni. She studied German at the University of Zurich and graduated with a secondary school teaching certificate. As a teacher, she taught for seven years at the Jewish School in Zurich and then for 22 years at the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz. In 2005, she resigned from this position and has since devoted herself entirely to her passion: writing. Leta Semadeni is a poet and storyteller who writes and publishes bilingually in Vallader and German. She is considered one of the most renowned representatives of contemporary Romansh and German-language poetry and storytelling. She was awarded the Swiss Literature Prize in 2016. In 2023, she received the Grand Prix Literature from the Federal Office of Culture.
