Julia Schoch, one of the most impressive voices in autofictional storytelling, has embarked on a literary quest in recent years – under the motto "Biography of a Woman": Over three volumes, she cleverly and self-critically analyzes various aspects of her life and experiences.
In "The Incident," the author is surprised after a reading by a stranger who claims they both share the same father; a revelation that radically alters her perspective on her family of origin. In the second volume, "The Lovers of the Century," the first-person narrator looks back unflinchingly on her long marriage and asks: "What actually still holds us together as a couple?" The trilogy concludes with the novel "Wild After a Wild Dream," in which the Potsdam native recounts a brief, passionate affair in her youth and realizes that it laid the foundation for her current self-understanding as a writer.
In conversation with Luzia Stettler, the long-time SRF literature editor, Julia Schoch talks about the background of this interesting novel project and presents individual text passages.
